Jaipur, Rathambhore and camping out
I am having so many problems using this program that I never did before! I am so far behind and I’m going to have to double up on cities. Now that I’ve reached Kathmandu I realize that there is so much about India but I have not written about.
Our next stop was the city of Jaipur. They caught the pink city as much of the buildings painted so it is an orangey pink color. Markets, the private homes, palaces were all Similarly painted. It was here that we went on the most interesting to tuk-tuk rides. Traffic was absolutely crazy. Nobody looks to see with you going everyone just keeps moving forward and hopefully they get you son of the person in front of him. Now comes along a tuk -tuk. As you ride along In the tuk-tuk, you come face-to-face with all kinds of drivers. Motorcycle drivers and tuk-tuk drivers and people in tuk-tuk‘s are all now in front of you on a very personal basis. You need to see the look on their faces when I look at them and say hello. They have no idea idea what to do but eventually they all smile and it now becomes a very fun experience.
We stop at a market and we all get out of our vehicle and begin walking around. The market is wall-to-wall people and everybody is pushing and shoving everything to get ahead. I really have no interest in buying anything however I’m there to see what comes up. In this case it was cobra. We ran into two snake charmer’s who were doing exactly what we would see them do on TV. It was absolutely amazing . We were invited down have a picture taken Close to them. I chose to remain behind the camera.
Also in Jaipur, We got to see several palaces. These houses were built by the Mughals. They are nothing like palaces that we might see in Europe. Nonetheless they are beautiful with art work around them that is fantastic. In the end, Jaipur is a beautiful city. Although smaller Then New Delhi, I found it difficult to get around and it didn’t have the same charm.
From here we went on to Ranthambhore National Park. Here’s the plan was for us to do to safari runs in the park to look for tigers. Upon arriving on the hotel, we immediately transferred to a vehicle to go on a first run. As exciting as the run was, the conditions of the road made the bumpy ride almost unbearable. People were getting hurt as we were jostled around. At one point Gordon was thrown off his seat. All of a sudden, The vehicle stopped.
At this moment everyone stopped complaining nobody was making a sound. The guy was telling us to look to the right and sure enough picking his head through the bushes was a big Bengal tiger. He stopped and looked at us and then sat down. He even appeared to be bored. However he began to stand up and as he did he started to walk away. But coming along behind him was the second Bengal tiger. It appeared to be a female. The naturalist believed that it was a mother and son. The mother stopped and took some time looking at us and gave us plenty of opportunity to take pictures while she yawned. I’d love to say she was growling at us because we look so ferocious but I would be wrong.
As sore and beat up we were from the ride we believe at this point it was all worth it. About two in ten Safari get to see Tigers. And just think we got to see to. In the next day, we went to visit a local village. The villagers show us around and invited us into their homes. The homes were simple and primitive but as far as they were concerned they were perfectly functionable. We were there in a day when the children were home from school as all children in the village went to school. After our tour of the Village and having an opportunity to speak with the village elders the village prepared a meal for us. It was a very simple meal but it was made with all of the things they grow in their fields. It was delicious.
The last day here, we went for another run however this drive was much more leisurely. We began before dawn and it was lovely to hear the sounds of the park Before too many tourists were there. We got to see an owl , mongoose and plenty of deer. The park itself has been hunting ground for that maharajah in Rajistan. A magnificent journey!A magnificent journey!
Because of the long distance between our location and our next stop he brought us to one of the overseas adventure travel tented camps. This gave us an opportunity to enjoy a campfire and the entertainment of several local musicians and dancers. They did several folk tunes and dances and once they were done we were all need of a good nights rest
After an early up and out we walked to a temple in the village. Look like you have been designed by the designer of the Colosseum. When your first looked at it it didn’t appear to be much of anything. But once you got inside and the enormity of it just hits you, it was absolutely beautiful.
