Jaipur, Rathambhore and camping out

Image
I am having so many problems using this program that I never did before! I am so far behind and I’m going to have to double up on cities. Now that I’ve reached Kathmandu I realize that there is so much about India but I have not written about. Our next stop was the city of Jaipur. They caught the pink city as much of the buildings painted so it is an orangey pink color. Markets, the private homes, palaces were all Similarly painted. It was here that we went on the most interesting to tuk-tuk rides. Traffic was absolutely crazy. Nobody looks to see with you going everyone just keeps moving forward and hopefully they get you son of the person in front of him. Now comes along a tuk -tuk. As you ride along In the tuk-tuk,  you come face-to-face with all kinds of drivers. Motorcycle drivers and tuk-tuk drivers and people in tuk-tuk‘s are all now in front of you on a very personal basis. You need to see the look on their faces when I look at them and say hello. They have no idea idea w...

Catching up! The rest of New Delhi

Image
I have fallen so far behind. It will be difficult catch up. Once the group really kicks in it seems like there is very little time to sit down and just get this done. I am finally finding the time. Since I last wrote I had three more days in New Delhi . The first stop we madeI have a Skikh Temple. God only was it a temple but it was also the food pantry. Hundreds of people came each day God only to pray for to get a hot meal. It was very interesting place. Every temple you go to you need to take your shoes off so that was the first thing we did. I’m always frayed that I’m going to come back and find my only pair of shoes gone. Then I look at the condition of them And realize that nobody would want them. We enter the temple and there were at least 100 people worshipping.  There was a priest reading scripture into a microphone and people were leaving offerings for the gods. Some live food and somewhere flowers, marigolds. After this we went outside and there was a large ...

The Qutub Mintar and Other Destinations

Image
Another day of great weather! It is hot but manageable. 91 degrees is liveable. Today was an opportunity to see some more of the Mughal ruins. This area was built be Shah Jahan, the same guy that buil the Taj Mahal. And what better way to get there but by subway. The New Delhi subway is clean and efficient and also cheap. $.40 will get me to my destination.unfortunately it is a mile away from the Qutub Mintar.  This was another very interesting monument. First of all, the tower is the tallest in New Delhi. Much of it was built in the 16 1700s. It was extremely crowded. I thought I was going to have to stand in this very large line till I realized it was a separate entrance for foreigners. Of course you paid about 12  Times the cost of a local, it was nice to be able to go right up to the window pay my money and walk into the attraction. Inside were hundreds of families and school field trip‘s. Everybody was milling around and taking in all of the buildings in the ruins of t...
